Study on the Measurements Techniques of Microwave Dielectric Properties

A general review and comparison on two types widely adopted measurement techniques of dielectric constant and dielectric loss at microwave frequencies has been undertaken. Characteristics of various transmission/reflection techniques and resonance techniques are compared with each other. Suggestions on how to select adequate measurement techniques of microwave dielectric properties are given. The resonance techniques are better choice for low loss measurements but lack of the swept frequency capability. The transmission/reflection techniques have the measurement characteristic of frequency sweeping, but limited on the loss tangent measurement accuracy. To confirm the accuracy of research, practical measurements by some chosen methods are made and the results are compared.
